Radiance Cookware was founded in 2016 by Nancy Umeh, a registered nurse, public health scientist (Nigeria and United Kingdom) and professional chef. She stumbled on cookwares when she almost lost her life in 2014 to an asthma attack triggered by a reaction known as ‘Teflon- Flu’. Teflon flu is an inhalation fever caused by heating up polterrafluoroethylene- PTFE, (the chemical on non-stick pans). Her discovery led her to explore a wide range of safe cookwares which were not readily available in Nigeria at the time. She sourced her first cast iron cookwares on one of her trips abroad and loved the cooking experience. She shared videos of her discovery on social media and her friends and family began to demand for cast iron cookwares. As the demand grew, she had to travel to learn how these cookwares were made, paying close attention to the safety of the lining.

She eventually registered the company in 2018 when she officially began commercial sales and distribution of cast iron cookwares in the country. Now, Radiance cookware has grown to a team of 12 (3 health care professionals included), dedicated to helping other families transition to safe cookwares.
